Acupuncture is at least 5,000 years old and has lasted thousands of years because it has proven itself to be a highly effective therapy. The technique of acupuncture, which is essentially painless, is to insert extremely fine needles into very specific points on the body to manipulate the qi (energy) and to restore it to balance in the system. Acupuncture points, which lie on energy channels, are directly related to specific organs and physiological functions. The effectiveness of acupuncture is due to its direct manipulation of the energy system through balancing, removing blockages, or adding energy where necessary. This principle has been repeatedly confirmed by research where clear physiological effects were manifested through the manipulation of specific acupuncture points. Research has also demonstrated that acupuncture can stimulate the production of beta-endorphins, a neurological transmitter that produces a natural analgesia.

The needles are sterile and disposable. The needles remain sterile until they are inserted into the patient and are immediately disposed of upon removal. All Licensed Acupuncturists are required to be certified by NY State in the practice of Clean Needle Technique which assures safety and cleanliness throughout all phases of the acupuncture treatment.

More and more insurance companies are now recognizing the effectiveness and importance of acupuncture in healthcare. Due to frequent changes occurring in health insurance, it is best to call your insurance company to find out if acupuncture is covered under your policy.
